After a sleepless night and a restful morning (as I slowly recover from jet lag), I spent the early afternoon preparing for classes tomorrow. After lunch (a tasty Döner Tüte) I visited the Lüneburg Renaissance Fair with some USAC student friends. The streets in the oldest part of the city were filled with booths, each demonstrating a different handicraft. There were people making pottery, baskets, jewelry, stone carvings, wood carvings, bread, beer, and much more, and all by hand. The food I sampled was delicious, especially the pretzel.
The fair also featured traditional dress and entertainment. For example, the colorfully dressed city soldiers arrested a witch from the crowd gathered to watch a juggler. Our time at the fair ended by looking around inside the beautiful Michael's Church .
We spent the early evening walking the streets, and eventually settled on a little cafe for coffee or ice cream. My Spaghetti-Eis was even more delectable than I was expecting.
A craftsman and his hand-made baskets and brooms.
Music from a woodwind choir.
A very entertaining juggler drew quite the crowd.
The organ at Michael's Church.
Spaghetti-Eis! Delicious even without its traditional appearance.
