A Little Bit of Bavaria

This weekend, Lüneburg held its own version of Oktoberfest.  Complete with rides, games, and good food, the festival looked a lot like a typical American county fair.  The main tent was decorated Bavarian-style (the blue-and-white pattern is part of the Bavarian crest), and was serving traditional Bavarian food and drink (for example, weisswurst and Löwenbräu Oktoberfestbier).  There were a couple of live bands playing, both from the stages and from the middle of the dining area!

Outside, there was a good mix of food stands (wurst, candy, pastries, etc.) and rides.  The rides were all accompanied by LOTS of lights and blaring music (both American hits and techno). Of the fair fare, I sampled (over a few days) a bratwurst, a roast pork kebab, weisswurst, Schwarzwälderkirschtorte, and schmalzkuchen.
